Exclusive Interview: Wenzday Chats About Upcoming EP

DJ and producer, Wenzday, runs her own record label while still producing and creating her own music on the go. Between performing at some of the most popular venues in the world and starting her successful career rather young, Wenzday is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.  She has a passion for not only sound, but for fashion and female empowerment as well. In an exclusive interview with CelebMix, Wenzday opened up about her recent singles, influences and more.

What can you tell us about your single “Everyday” and its main message?

This song is my kitschy response to the fact that I took my artist name from a day of the week as well as an homage to one of the best R&B songs ever written “7 Days” by Craig David. It’s also a nod to the name of my weekly radio show “Everyday is Wenzday” on Dash Radio “X.” I’ve had the show for 2 years now and it’s what I look forward to every week.

What artists or bands influenced you growing up and who influences your sound/music currently?

Growing up I was a total emo kid. My favorite bands were Kill Hannah, The Used, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, AFI, Green Day, Yellowcard…the list keeps going and these bands still influence me to this day. Currently, I’m a huge fan of Habstrakt, Joyryde, Matroda, Wax Motif, and Gesaffelstein. There’s also a ton of bass house artists out of France who are killing it right now like Badjokes, Tony Romero and Yvvng.

Your new EP is called Demons Dancing and it will be out very soon! What can you tease about that project?

I’m so excited for this EP to drop! All month long I have been leaving hints at the theme, release date and track names on my Twitter and Instagram. It’s been really fun seeing my friends and fans putting the pieces together. This EP on a conceptual level is in the same universe as Heartbreak House. It’s two tracks and they are deeper and darker than the songs on Heartbreak House.

How is this EP different than your previous EP, “Heartbreak House,” and how do you think your sound has evolved since that last project?

Since writing Heartbreak House, my sound has definitely developed. I could even argue that Heartbreak House helped me shape what I wanted the overall vibe and sound of “Wenzday” to be. When it came to the new EP, my inspiration came from what’s going on in bass house as well as tech house in Los Angeles. Heartbreak House was all about getting over a breakup and Demons Dancing is about single life after that. I even dedicated one of the songs to all of my girlfriends who helped me get through the tough times.

Your currently on tour! What do you love most about performing live?

Right now I am touring my Heartbreak House concept set. All of the songs in the set are about love, romance and heartbreak. Forming this set brought me back to my open format roots because I made a lot of fun edits of classic love and breakup songs. I am also working with an incredible VJ to help incorporate elements of the music video and concept art into the visuals for a full experience. I never get sick of this set and I’m so excited for everyone to see all of the elements come together live!

If you could tell your fans one thing right now, what would it be and why?

For anyone going through heartbreak, I PROMISE you it gets easier. Try to remember what you loved before that person and go back to that.

What can your supporters look forward to in the near or distant future?

I have a couple more releases before the end of the year including a remix for my friend Bijou on his label “Do Not Duplicate Recordings.” Also, in November, my company, 40oz Cult, is having a pop up store in Los Angeles that will have exclusive merchandise items for sale and we will all be hanging out!
